Ammersee Lakes on the Chattahoochee is a unique gated community of 148 homes, located on the west side of the Chattahoochee River in Fulton County, on State Bridge Road between Peachtree Industrial Blvd. and Medlock Bridge Road. Most of the homes are built along the river or around a series of lakes, creating a park-like setting, inviting serenity and nature.

This friendly neighborhood has an active group of people, who enjoy the tennis courts, swimming pool, nature trail, fishing in the lakes, and activities such as the Theater Group, Book Club, and Wine Tasting.

   AMMERSEE LAKES HISTORY

Ammersee Lakes on the Chattahoochee is a completely built-out gated community of 148 homes adjacent to the Chattahoochee River in the City of Johns Creek, Georgia. The majority of the residences have been built around the several man-made lakes that flow throughout the community. The amenities include a stunning waterfall immediately upon passing through the gates, a swimming pool, tennis courts and a tranquil nature trail that meanders through the grounds. A mandatory annual fee is required for all home sites and is payable in semi-annual installments on January 1 and July 1 of each year. This assessment covers the majority of all yard and lawn maintenance for all residences and common areas throughout the year, the gate attendants and all infrastructure of the community which includes the roads.

Ammersee is a self-governing community with all the directors being residents who are elected by the homeowners at the annual meeting.   In addition, Community Management Associates (CMA) is our property manager.  The Covenants, which are recorded with the Fulton County land records, are a part of the deed to each property by acceptance of a deed.   All property owners are thereby subject to its provisions. The Covenants are intended to protect and enhance all property values in Ammersee. Any exterior modifications or changes to a property or its grounds require prior approval (see Architectural Review Committee).

The original German investor/developer built Ammersee to represent a number of towns and villages surrounding the upper Bavarian mountain lake of Ammersee. Lake Ammer or Ammersee is among the five largest German Lakes. The names of these towns and villages - Eching, Breitbrunn, Herrsching and St. Georgen - were incorporated into our various street names, albeit, with sometimes a slight spelling change but pronounced the same. Our Andechs Summit takes its name after the Andechs Monastery which is a short distance from the town of Herrsching, the largest town on that lake. The monastery, which dates back to the 1400s, has as its claim to fame a wonderful tasting and almost black beer that is brewed there by the monks.

The land on which Ammersee Lakes is situated was originally known as the Ben Summerour Farm. The larger part of the farm had been purchased by the Atlanta Athletic Club some years earlier. The swamp portion of the farm was dredged, the lakes created and the homes built along both the Chattachoochee River and the winding lakes. As a result Ammersee Lakes is also inhabited by deer, fox, beavers, ducks, geese, herons, birds of all types and other wildlife.

Community social activities include book club, bridge club, Bible study, theater parties, wine tastings, morning coffees, holiday luncheon, holiday pool parties and group visits to attractions around Atlanta. Or, if you so prefer, you can simply enjoy the peace and tranquility of Ammersee Lakes 'where nature is a part of everyday.'   You can keep up with these activities open to all through the web page, newsletter and email bulletins.                 April, 2009
